Website Design & Hosting - Definitions

Just what is the difference between design and hosting?

Design - means just that. Someone designss how your website looks. They work with you to decide what is to appear on it, they do the programming end of it and put it into a format that web browsers can display. Most times, that is the end of the story. They give you the file on a CD or other type of media, and now you are on your own to find a home for it.

Hosting - this is the 'home' you find for your newly created website. It will reside on a server which is connected to the Internet. This way, millions of people can access it and see what you spent your hard earned money on to advertise your company. Some companies will host your website for you but only as a 'subordinate' of their domain name. (*see Domain below)

Domain - having your own domain name means being able to point people to your website using your own name. (i.e. www.AcmeProducts.com instead of www.aol.com/acmeproducts). To look professional, each company should have its own domain name. It expresses stability to the world. After all, what reason would you have for not investing $20 - $35 dollars to have your name written in Internet Stone?
